Through the African Methodist Episcopal church, he has had opportunities to serve in numerous pastoral capacities. He served at Stearne Chapel, Bryan, Tx.; St. Luke, Houston, Tx.; First Community, Missouri City, Tx. and Zion Temple, Brazoria, Tx. His most recent pastoral charge began November 15, 1997, with St. Paul AME Church in Houston, Texas
In June 2002, under the leadership of Pastor Dawson, St. Paul opened a new 10,000 sq. Ft. Sanctuary, daycare facility, and community projects offices at its current location, 1554 Gears Road in Houston, Texas.
Our goal is to eradicate social injustice and to rebuild broken lives by actively encouraging Involvement and developing projects to meet the needs identified within the community. In 2012 completion of a 30,000 sq. Ft. MultiPurpose Building which includes expansion of a Daycare, Gymnatorium, classrooms and a commercial kitchen under Pastor Dawson's leadership.
Roderick D. Dawson is a native of Houston, Texas. He attended public schools in the Houston Independent School District and is a graduate of Waltrip Senior High School. Rev. Dawson received his undergraduate degree from Texas Southern University and attended Houston Graduate School of Theology. Rev. Dawson hails from a family line of Gospel ministers, following the examples set forth by his father and grandfather. He received his call in the ministry at the age of seventeen (17).
Pastor Dawson other affiliations include. Chairman of Texas Conference Trustees, Chairman of Texas Conference Board of Examiners, and General Board Member of African Methodist Episcopal Church. Board Member of Greenspoint Redevelopment Authority Board and Board Member of the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone with the City of Houston.
Pastor Dawson is married to Stacey Lynn Pryor, and they have two sons: Marsalis and Madison. God has charged Pastor Dawson with the restoration of the traditional family as described in the book of Genesis. Through God's leading, he has established the mission of St. Paul AME Church, "To minister to the intellectual, spiritual, and physical needs of every man, woman, and child through the teaching of Biblical principles that enlighten and enhance one's personal life to exemplify Jesus Christ in every way."
